how accurate does ur birth time actually need to be

three placements, three tolerances

the sun barely moves. about one degree a day. get ur birth date right and the sun lands in the correct spot no matter what time u type. the clock does not touch it.

the moon moves a bit. about thirteen degrees a day, so roughly one degree every two hours. being an hour out shifts it half a degree, which normally changes nothing. the exception is if u were born just as the moon was stepping into a new rashi. right at that edge, an hour matters. anywhere else it does not.

the rising sign is a whole different animal. it is not asking where a planet is. it is asking which slice of the zodiac was coming up over the eastern horizon at that exact minute.

the earth is spinning u through the sky the whole time, and it drags a full sign past the horizon every two hours. that works out to about one degree every four minutes.

so a birth certificate rounded to the nearest quarter hour is already three or four degrees off. that is often enough to move a planet into a different house, even when the rising sign itself stays put.

what each level of "off" actually costs u

why the rising sign is this sensitive

the sun and moon are where they are. it hardly matters which country ur standing in when u look up at them.

the rising sign is not like that. it is about ur horizon, the line where ur sky meets ur ground. that line depends on exactly where u are and exactly what time it is, because the earth keeps turning u past it.

this is why twins born forty minutes apart can end up with different rising signs while sharing the same sun and moon sign. same day, same hospital, same parents. different minute, different horizon.

what actually counts as "accurate enough"

most hospital birth times in india are written down to the nearest five or fifteen minutes. that is fine for the sun and the moon, and fine for the rising sign too, unless u happen to sit right on an edge.

small rounding is not the real problem. the real problem is having no recorded time at all. "morning sometime", a relative's memory, or a number copied off a horoscope made decades ago by someone who was also guessing.

if that is u, do not fake it. a lagna built from a made-up time is not better than saying u do not know. read ur sun and moon instead. those two do not need the clock.

if u don't know your exact time

three things genuinely help, best first.

paperwork. a birth certificate or the hospital discharge summary. the time is often written on the discharge papers even when the certificate leaves it off.

an old chart. one an astrologer made years ago, back when someone in ur family still remembered the time properly.

rectification. this works backwards from big events in ur life to narrow down when u were probably born. it is a real technique with real limits. it gives u a window, not a magic exact minute.

and two things that do not help. rounding to the nearest hour because it feels close enough. or picking noon because it seems neutral. both hand u a confident, specific, wrong lagna, which is worse than admitting u are not sure.

the receipt

the sun's crawl of one degree a day, the moon's thirteen degrees a day, and the horizon's one degree every four minutes are plain astronomy. any astronomer would give u the same numbers. none of that is a vedic claim.

what is vedic is what gets built on top. the lagna sets ur entire house system, so it is the one place where being slightly off spreads through everything else.
