where the idea actually came from

most angel number content calls the practice ancient. the honest history is more recent, and more interesting.

the old part is number symbolism, which really is ancient. Pythagoras treated numbers as carrying qualities, not just amounts. hebrew gematria gave letters number values. chinese numerology has long treated 8 as lucky and 4 as unlucky, because of how they sound. people have given numbers meaning for a very long time, in a lot of places.

the new part is this specific idea: repeated digits as messages from angels, with one agreed table of meanings. that goes back to popular spiritual publishing in the late 1990s, above all Doreen Virtue's books.

Virtue publicly disowned those books in 2017 after her religious views changed. that is on the record, and content built on her framework almost never mentions it.

the method: add the day down to one digit, then the month, then the year. then add those three together and reduce again. at every step, 11, 22 and 33 are left as they are.

try 7 november 1996. the day is 7. the month is 11, which stays. the year is 1 plus 9 plus 9 plus 6, which is 25, which reduces to 7. now add 7 plus 11 plus 7 and u get 25, which reduces to 7. life path 7.
